TOEFL iBT (Test of Eng­lish as a For­eign Lan­guage) is an in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly re­cognis­ed, stan­dar­di­sed test that as­ses­ses the Eng­lish pro­fi­ci­en­cy of non-​native spe­a­kers in lis­te­ning, rea­ding, spea­king, and wri­ting. TOEFL iBT is one of the world's lea­ding tests for study, work, and im­mi­gra­ti­on and is ac­cep­ted by over 13,000 uni­ver­si­ties and in­sti­tu­ti­ons in more than 160 coun­tries. Uni­ver­si­ties in the USA and other English-​speaking coun­tries often re­qui­re it as an ad­mis­si­on pre­re­qui­si­te. Glo­bal­ly, over 35 mil­li­on people have taken the TOEFL test to de­mons­tra­te their Eng­lish lan­guage skills.

The TOEFL iBT® Test con­sists of four sec­tions: Rea­ding, Lis­te­ning, Spea­king, and Wri­ting.

The en­ti­re test takes just under 2 hours to com­ple­te, but you should al­lo­ca­te 2.5 hours, in­clu­ding 30 mi­nu­tes for check-​in.

Speak about a fa­mi­li­ar topic and dis­cuss ma­te­ri­als you have read and heard.

WRI­TING

29 mi­nu­tes | 2 tasks | 0-30 points
Read a pas­sa­ge, lis­ten to a re­cor­ding, and type your re­spon­se. Ex­plain and sup­port an opi­ni­on in an on­line class­room dis­cus­sion.

Com­pa­ri­son of CEFR and TOEFL Scores

The Com­mon Eu­rope­an Frame­work of Re­fe­rence for Lan­guages (CEFR) is an in­ter­na­tio­nal­ly re­cognis­ed sys­tem for as­ses­sing and de­scrib­ing lan­guage pro­fi­ci­en­cy in six le­vels (A1 to C2). It fa­ci­li­ta­tes the com­pa­ri­son and de­ve­lo­p­ment of lan­guage skills.

Test Day Re­qui­re­ments

ID DO­CU­MENTS must meet the fol­lo­wing cri­te­ria:

  • Ori­gi­nal do­cu­ment (no pho­to­co­pies)
  • Phy­si­cal ID (di­gi­tal IDs are not ac­cep­ted)
  • Government-​issued (a na­tio­nal or state ID from your home or re­si­dent coun­try)
  • Valid ID (no ex­pi­red IDs)
  • Matching name and date of birth (must match the re­gis­tra­ti­on de­tails; ac­cents are ex­clu­ded)
  • Cur­rent photo (a clear, re­cognisa­ble photo is re­qui­red)
  • Si­gna­tu­re (must in­clu­de your si­gna­tu­re that matches the name on the ID)

Plea­se en­su­re that your re­gis­tra­ti­on name ex­act­ly matches your ID to avoid being de­nied test par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on and lo­sing your fees.

AR­RI­VAL TIME

En­su­re that you ar­ri­ve at least 30 mi­nu­tes be­fo­re your test time to allow enough time for check-​in. For more in­for­ma­ti­on on test day pro­ce­du­res, refer to the Bul­le­tin (de­tail­ed TOEFL in­for­ma­ti­on bro­c­hu­re, in Eng­lish).

ITEMS

Do not bring un­au­tho­ri­sed items into the testing room. This in­clu­des mo­bi­le pho­nes, wat­ches, or other elec­tro­nic de­vices, as well as re­cor­ding, audio, scan­ning, or pho­to­gra­phic equip­ment.

TEST SE­CU­RI­TY

Test se­cu­ri­ty is a top prio­ri­ty for ETS. There are gui­de­li­nes and pro­ce­du­res that our test cen­ter must fol­low to en­su­re the test is con­duc­ted fair­ly and se­cu­re­ly. Failu­re to fol­low the in­struc­tions of test cen­ter staff will re­sult in de­ni­al of test par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on, and your test fee will not be re­fun­ded. Any vio­la­ti­on of se­cu­ri­ty rules du­ring the test or breaks may lead to re­mo­val from the test cen­ter and/or can­cel­la­ti­on of your test re­sults. TEST RE­SULTS

At the end of the test, your Rea­ding and Lis­te­ning sec­tions will be scored im­me­dia­te­ly. These un­of­fi­ci­al re­sults pro­vi­de an in­di­ca­ti­on of how you per­for­med. At the end of the test, the date when you will re­cei­ve your of­fi­ci­al re­sults will be dis­played. This in­for­ma­ti­on will also be availa­ble in your ETS ac­count.
